The route begins from the Big Almaty Lake situated at the height of 2600m and surrounded by the mountain peaks. Further on it runs over the Touristov pass where in the zone of never melting snows at the height of 3930m originates the Touristov glacier. Approaching the pass one can have stunning panorama of ice-covered piramide of Molodaya Gvardiya mount (4394m)
The descent from the pass is performed along ther boundary of the glacier and opens into the most beautiful valleys of the Zailisky Alatau – the Left Talgar valley. The Left Talgar valley is famous for its beauty: the mountain tundra gradually changes into the zone of alpine meadows, and the coniferous forest exists along with the thicket of raspberry canes, ash shrubberies and birch groves.
Descending down the grassy slopes it’s possible to see within the reach of one’s hand the ice streams of the glaciers sliding down from the mountain tops to the bottom of the valley.
Due to the remoteness from the most popular routs and roads the ravine preserves its initial nature and here one can often see wild animals.
The walk from the Left Talgar ravine to the Malaya Almatinka valley is performed across the alpine pastures called “dzhailau” in Kazak. Then path goes over the Butakovsky pass from which one can have the view of whole city of Almaty. The journey is completed in the Maloalmatinsky ravine at the sports complex Medeo.

Itinerary

Day 1
|
Drive from Almaty to Big Almaty Lake (2600m) – 2 hours. Walk along the ground road up the flow of the Ozernaya river to its confluence with the river Kyzyl-Sai r– 2.5 hours. Night in tents. Camp 1 – (2900m).

Day 2
|
Breakfast. Packing. Walk along the path up the flow of the river Kyzyl-Say to the Touristov pass (3930m) – 3.5 hours. Descent from the pass to the valley of the Left Talgar river– 3 hours. Night in tents. Camp 2(2800m).

Day 3
|
Breakfast. Packing. Walk along the river Left Talgar down to the glade called Alpine Rose (2050m) – 4 hours. Night in tents. Camp 3 (2050m).

Day 4
|
Breakfast. Packing. Walk: the Left Talgar ravine – Butakovsky pass (2600m) – Kim-Asar gorge – Medeo complex (1600m) – 5 hours. Drive back to Almaty – 1 hour
