The focus of our attention in this tour is the pearl of the Northern Tien-Shan mountains, the lake Jasil-Kol, situated at the linking spot between the ranges of Zailiyskiy and Kungey Alatau at the height of 3 116 m above sea level. Unique in its beauty, this lake is surrounded by magnificent mountain peaks which are reflected in its turquoise-blue water.
The route to this lake runs along the picturesque ravine of the river Leviy (left) Talgar, famous for the variety of the landscape patterns. We shall go through the coniferous forest and find ourselves in the zone of the Alpine meadows, gradually changing into the Alpine tundra in the course of the ascent. Further upwards there are only the never-melting snows of the summits and the glaring glaciers, along one of which (the Dmitriyev’s glacier) we are to ascend to the Festivalniy pass (4 010 m).
After the descent from the pass we shall approach the object of our journey the lake Jasil-Kol.
Having had a short rest at the coast, we shall start on our way to the Bolshoye (Big) Almatinskoye lake. While walking along the winding path through the Alpine meadows, we shall have a good chance to marvel at the splendid panorama of the mountains around us and the fragile, fuzzy edelweiss flowers under our feet.
From the Bolshoye Almatinskoye lake we shall drive back to Almaty to complete the tour.
